Violin Making

What will you learn

At the Violin Building School, you will be taught how to build a good-sounding stringed instrument. This can be a violin, viola, cello or double bass (armcello, viola da gamba, violone). Basically anything that can be made to sound with a bow.

What you need to be able to do to get started

Some woodworking experience is of course nice, but not necessary. However, it is important that you can work precisely and meticulously, that you have perseverance and patience. You should also not mind completing a large project. Building your first instrument part-time will soon take a couple of years.

Mode of instruction

The school mostly uses the 'master-apprentice' mode of instruction, but there are also workshops where everyone is working on the same thing. The 'sharpening weekends' are an example of this. Within the school, you will be supervised by Dirk Jacob or Rob.

When

You can join us on different days. Throughout the year, the school is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Fridays. We organise 10-12 weekends a year and in summer we organise 3 inspiring and fun building weeks.
